Doll vessels

Found at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont, these early 19th and 20th century dolls are vessels of love, care, connection, and imagination; and also prompts for societal roles, stereotypes, and identity.

I particularly love looking into the eyes of these figures, and imaging what they might be thinking.

Modern versions from my sister’s collection of Barbies similarly model societal fantasies and expectations.
